Never mind
I had to leave
My life behind
I dug some graves
You’ll never find
The story’s told
With facts and lies
I had a name
But never mind
There’s truth that lives
And truth that dies
I don’t know which
So never mind

Is cursive on the way out?
I guess I’m a bit behind the times with this whole issue of cursive being relegated to the back of the classroom in some schools, and pushed completely out in others. It is news to me though as I just happened across the issue on social media. After a wee bit of googling I found a landslide of posts and lengthy articles confirming that cursive is indeed in danger of being lost.
Like anything and everything there a multitude of arguments for and against. I have nothing to add to what I’ve already seen “out there”, except my vote that it be saved. I really, REALLY hope cursive remains as an important subject in our schools. Handwriting adds a beauty to our language, any language, that is simply not found elsewhere. Consider the graceful elegance of a handwritten love letter. Now consider those exact same words as text message. Which would you rather receive? Which note would you be more likely to cherish? The answer is obvious of course.
I think cursive brings alive the romance between our spoken and written words. What a tragedy it would be to let it slip away.

Father Emil Kapaun
When the story of human history comes to a close, death and violence don't get the final word. The love of God does. That love, burning bright in the heart of Fr. Emil Kapaun in the darkness of a POW camp in the Korean war, made him a hero.

What the F*ck?
In the past week I’ve spent a lot of time re-aquainting myself with Medium. Following a few writers I like, and unfollowing those who haven’t posted anything at all, or haven’t for over a year or more.
More importantly, I’ve read some really, REALLY, good stories (or posts, or articles, or whatever your label preference) here, and a few not so good ones. One thing I have noticed is the use of the word “Fuck”, both in body and in headlines, with much more frequency than I would have presumed necessary. The thing is, I don’t recall seeing it where another word would have been better suited. So I wonder, is it being utilized more often these days, than say a decade or two ago, because it is more acceptable now? Or is our society just generally fucked? The question is not rhetorical…

Workmate to Lifelong Friend.

What is work but just another part of living? And being such, and presuming we want to live a happy life, it only makes sense that your work should make you happy. Not only what you do, but where yo do it, and with whom.
I’m fortunate in that my current work (writing and design etc) can be accomplished from anywhere. Presuming I can find a decent WiFi connection. This mobility enables me to move around while I work, and I take full advantage of that.
Most recently, I visited an old friend (and workmate) at his home in Owen Sound, Ontario. Gorgeous little town, on the southwestern shore of Georgian Bay, that looks especially picturesque in the winter.
This friend is the perfect example of the joy that can be found in work, and in how that can enhance your overall life experience. Which I think is what we are all trying to do, be happy.

Not sure what kind they are but these flowers don't seem too bothered by this Fall weather.
